Let The New Years Puppy Swap Continue!

As most of you know, Brittany quit blogging for the time being and with that the New Years Puppy Swap got cancelled. I decided to take it into my own hands and continue it! I e-mailed her last night and she sent me the 2 people who have already signed up. I will need at least 8 people to have it happen. So please sign up!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to host a New Years Puppy SWAP for all of us doggy people. I am pretty much a newbie at the whole swapping thing, but the one I did participate in was really fun! And no, we are NOT trading puppies with each other!

Here is how it works:

*Everyone who is participating will be paired up and will be sending a gift. Have fun getting to know your swap partner and picking out their gift. Oh, and the receiving part is pretty fun too.

*If you want to participate send me an email at puppyrazor103@yahoo.com by midnight December 15 (that gives you 15 days + today). Send me your name, # of dogs and their info (name, breed/description, age), mailing address, email address, and blog address. This information will be sent to your swap partner. ***

*If I don't have at least 8 people I will postpone the swap......so spread the word! The more people that sign up, the more fun this will be.

*When you enter, please post about it on your blog with a link to this post so we can spread the word about the swap and get as many people as we can. If you know of a blogger who maybe doesn't READ blogs that often but might like to participate, feel free to let them know about the swap. Remember, the more the merrier!

*If you feel like it, add the swap button to your blog. It's on the right side of my blog. If you don't want to or don't know how, that is ok too!

*Wait patiently until after the 15th for your partner's information to be emailed to you. After the 15th, or once I get 8+ people I will pair everyone up and send out the partners email. This will have your partners name, their dog(s) information, email, blog address, and physical address along with a reminder of the swap rules.

*HAVE FUN!! Visit your partner's blog, get to know them! The best part of swapping is getting to know another blogger, and best of all, anotherDOGGY blogger!

*Pick out your gift to your partner! This will be a two part gift. One part for the canine(s) and one part for their human counterparts. However big or small you want to make your gift, just make sure part is for the human and part is for the dog(s). Your gift can be eatable, decorative, big, small, homemade, store bought, expensive, not-so-expensive, priceless, durable, fragile, WHATEVER!

*Your gift must be made/bought/whatever, packaged, and ready to ship on December 27th. This will avoid most of the Christmas mail madness, but if you know you will not be able to send your gift on the 27th make sure it is sent before NOT after the 27th.This will ensure that everyone will get their gift during the first week (or two)of 2011.

*HAVE FUN!! Visit your partner's blog, get to know them! The best part of swapping is getting to know another blogger, and best of all, anotherDOGGY blogger!

*If you sign up, FOLLOW THROUGH! If you are not going to participate, don't sign up.

*When you receive your gift, post about it on your blog to show everyone just how amazing your swap partner is!

*Add your blog to my "link list" that will be posted after I receive my gift (yes I am in on this too). That way everyone can see what everyone else got. Make sure to leave some comment love on each others' posts!

*HAVE FUN!! Visit your partner's blog, get to know them! The best part of swapping is getting to know another blogger, and best of all, another DOGGYblogger!............Hmmmmm, did I already mention this one? Good, because it is important!

***If you would prefer to NOT give me your mailing address, just say so in your email, but PLEASE tell me which of the 48 you hail from. Then email your address to your swap partner as soon as you get the partner email.Comprende?

P.S. - So Sorry! This swap is only for people living in the 48 mainland states. Not that I don't love all the international bloggers, but the shipping costs and time don't make for very easy swapping. I briefly considered including Canada and just matching them up with other Canadian bloggers but......It got all jumbled and complicated in my brain so......maybe next time?

Finally Legal

Aniko went to the vet today to get his last set of shots! As a puppy raiser this is very exciting as our puppies can now go pretty much anywhere we think they are ready for. Aniko weighed 31lbs and he did not even notice the shots! Let the adventures begin!

Dora & Boots: A Story That Will Not Be Forgotten

As you all read yesterday, Aniko was not feeling well at all. He vomited at least 5 times in a 24 hour period. This morning I woke up and got ready for school and Aniko was definitely not himself, he was very lethargic, not moving really, and was not his happy joyful self like he is in the mornings. I decided to take him into the vet as it had been over 24 hours and something was obviously not right.

We arrived at the vet and she felt him and his gut and said she felt something unusual and she wanted X-Rays. They vet called GDB to get approval. He came back from X-Rays and she said she wanted to do sugary because she was pretty sure something was in there causing him to not poop and he was throwing up to try and get it out. Well to do sugary they had to call GDB and get approval again as it was not going to be cheap. The approval took about an hour, so meanwhile me and Aniko and Ryder were in the room and Aniko was just passed out at my feet like he had been all morning. They finally came in and said GDB said it was a go for sugary, I was on the verge of tears I could not stand to think that my 3.5 month old puppy would be cut open, for maybe even no reason, but better to be safe then sorry. Right as the vet was walking in the prep him for sugary he stood up (note that he had not moved in 2 hours) and just as I was about to pick him up to take him potty, he started pooping, and out came my sister's sticky Dora & Boots. They are soft sticky toys that you can throw and they stick to walls, ceiling, etc.

Lo and behind as I could have sworn he ate nothing he did, and it passed all the way through his system!! So I am very thankful now that GDB took over an hour to approve sugary, as if they didn't he would not have popped it out and he would have had sugary. They still wanted to keep him for the day and do more X-Rays to be 100% sure there is nothing else in there and they wanted to give him an IV with fluids since he was dehydrated. They kept in touch throughout the day and they were in touch with GDB. They said that is was looking promising that he would be released at 5pm tonight, if he didn't vomit, and if he did they were doing sugary to look at him, because obviously there was still something in there bugging him.

So at 5 I got a call saying he was doing a billion times better and had not thrown up. I was very excited that he would get to come home! I got there and I could hear him barking in the back. The vet came in and talked with us and said he is a doing a lot better then this morning, and walked around and played with the staff.

He is now at home back to his usual self. He and Ryder were playing tug and he was running around and just being a puppy. He is on an antibiotic that will help his gut out because the Doc said it must be a little torn up so it will help seal and heal it up.

I am so happy that it took GDB a long time or else he would have had sugary. So he has his check up tomorrow which I am sure he will pass with flying colors, and then he can eat! He has not eaten in about a day and a half. He ate rice last night but he threw it up.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

12 Hour Virus?

Last night Corona (my sister GDB puppy) vomited at least 5 times. We called our leaders because we did not think it was normal for a dog to vomit 5 times in a few hours period. They told us to watch him for 12 hours and if he continued to vomit take him in to the vet. He was doing fine this morning and I don't think he has puked since. Yay!!

On my way to school today I had Ryder and Aniko on the floor boards of my car and all the sudden I hear the vomiting noise, I look down to see that Aniko has thrown up his entire breakfast and all over Ryder. Needless to say I could not take Ryder to school with vomit all over him, so I went home and bathed the dogs and cleaned the car. Aniko has since then vomited 3 times, and to my pleasure I did not have to take care of that. :) My mom had a fun morning at work cleaning up his vomit.

I got home from school and went and got him, and he has not puked since 10ish this morning. He is not himself though, he is just laying around and sleeping, which is not like him when I go and get him, he is usually very playful and full of energy! I hope he okay from here on out.

We think the sharing of all the dog bones is how Aniko got it. So I washed all the dog bones this afternoon and have been cleaning the house a bit so Ryder or my pet dog does not get this horrible virus.

Tonight is Ryder's goodbye meeting, which means I have to read the dreaded "goodbye poem" (a tradition in our club) to him and it usually brings tears. Aniko will be staying home since it has not been 12 hours yet and I would hate it if any of the other dogs in our club got it!

Hope you all had a better morning then me! But it's all part of puppy raising and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Long, Much Needed, Overdue, Update

It has almost been a month since my last post! I have been super busy with school and my mom is fostering 2 kids so I have been helping a lot with them.

It's hard to believe that Aniko is almost 4 months old and he gets his "legal" shots on Friday. He is turing out to be an awesome dog, who I love oh so much in the short month that I have had him. He is a very confident guy, loves shopping, and small outings. He knows "sit" and "let's go" very well and is walking 99% of the time which is helpful, because I don't think I can carry around a 25lb (or so) puppy much longer. He is getting bigger every day and learning more and more. He goes to my mom's Daycare every day while I am at school, and my mom and all the kids adore him! I am getting anxious to take him to school, but it will most likely be in December before Winter Break!

Ryder is still here with us, but we got the news last week he is on the 11/27 recall. :( I knew this day would come but I am SO not ready, but is Ryder ready? Yes. Ryder has been such an easy dog to raise and excelled so well in everything I taught him and socialized him to. He is very trustworthy and can be taken into any situation and you'll know he will do great. I am really going to miss this dog, I will be happy with what ever he chooses, even if it is coming home and being my forever dog.

Today my family and I ventured up to Scheel's (largest outdoor store) and this was Aniko's first "big" outing. I did not go very far into the store as I wanted to be close to an exit in case of an accident, but he did great no accidents!! I don't think he has ever had an accident while in vest! *knock on wood*. He did great and had no reactions to the stuffed animals or all the people and noise. He is truly amazing for a 3.5 month old puppy.

Looking very handsome.

It looks like Ryder is kissing Aniko, but he is just looking in that general direction!

Hope you all have a good rest of your weekend!

Fall Photos

This past week, our neighbors have this gorgeous tree and red leaves, so I took the opportunity to take some pictures of Ryder and Aniko. I tried to get Aniko to stay still but that was not happening he was WAY too distracted by all the leaves and all he wanted to do was eat them. So none of his pictures turned out good. Ryder, on the other hand, I got a few really good pictures, maybe Calendar Worthy?? Let me know out of the 3 photos you like the best. :)
Photo #1
I think this is the best out of all of them. His looks and the background are gorgeous.
Photo #2
I really like the angle of the camera looking down on him, but I hate that his eyes are squinty.
Photo #3
I really like his heat tilt, but not so much the house in the background.
The next few pictures are from the Capital Grounds Photo Shoot. I got a few good ones, but the lightning was bad so there is a glow on most all the pictures.

My two handsome boys!!

Hope you all have a good rest of the weekend!

P.S. Aniko is doing AWESOME! He sleeps through the night, has since Day 1. He is really easy, my mom loves having him at her daycare while I am at school because he is so calm and all he does is sleep. He has gone to a thrift store, the post office, library, and a few small quick in and outs. He does really well and shows no signs of being scared and too overwhelmed. He is also a very good walker and walks most of the time!

I also weighed him a few nights ago and he was 20 pounds!!

Mr. Aniko

Aniko has been a dream puppy, I got the news Tuesday afternoon that I had been assigned a male Golden, that will be arriving on the puppy truck in Reno on Wednesday (yes I know I posted on Wednesday I would be getting him Thursday, but I lied I wanted you all to have the fun of guessing!!) It is pretty rare for the puppy truck to be in Reno and even more rare that us NV raisers are able to get puppies off the truck, we normally have to drive to GDB in San Rafael to get our babies.

The truck was on time and arrived right at 1:00 and we saw it on the road (which was a neat experience I've never seen the puppy truck on the road, I've only seen it at campus) and we followed it getting really excited to meet Mr. "A." As soon as the drivers (Lee was there and I can't remember the other driver's name) got out of the truck me and another raiser who was picking up a puppy, were very anxious to meet them! They asked us if we would like to eat first, and we said "we already ate we are ready for a puppy!!!!" So they gladly got our puppies off and gave us food and their bag and then they locked up the truck and went to go eat lunch. That was my first puppy truck pick up experience.
Aniko coming off of the truck.
Me with my two puppies. Ryder & Aniko in front of the puppy truck.

Aniko has been very good the past 2 days, he sleeps from 11-6 and has not had an accident in the kennel yet. *fingers crossed* He only barks in the kennel when he goes to work with my mom, while I am at school. She runs a daycare center, and he hears all the kids and noise so he barks because he wants to play! Instead of my mom dealing with his barking she set up a bed and toys for him in her office and put a baby gate in the door, so he will hang out in there for a good part of the day until I go get him. She says he is very good and sleeps most of the time.

With goldens, and after having my leaders golden, Jordie I was hesitant on getting one of my own. Jordie is awesome out working, but at home he paces, pants, whines/barks almost constantly, so that made me think twice, but I can't judge all goldens off him as I know there are awesome goldens in this world! So when I was offered Aniko, I thought I would be in for an experience, but so far Aniko is awesome in the house, not skittish/scared of anything and it pretty confident but a mellow puppy.
One of his favorite bones.
His favorite spot to sleep in my room, under my desk with his head on my printer.
I gave him a bath on Wednesday as he smelled like "puppy truck" I am sure he had a bath a day or so before he left, but I still gave him one anyway! He was great during the bath, but as soon as I opened the door, he jumped out. I had to hold him like that so I could get a picture.
Isn't that face just the sweetest?!
Chillin' in the house while I do some chores.
First puppy jacket picture! He looks adorable with it, but he was in a playful mood when I took these so he was not real cooperative.
I hope everyone has a good weekend!! Aniko and I will most likely be hanging out at home, as he is to young to be going anywhere.

Puppy #4!!

Please Welcome.......................
ANIKO!!!!

DOB:8/6/10
Breed: Golden
Color: Light Colored

On Monday, we had Celeste, our CFR, come visit us. Ryder is now 16 months old and is ready to go back. We are pretty sure his recall is going to be 11/6. Celeste also promised me a golden or cross since my sister took Corona for her in January, when Ryder went back.

After the meeting was over I stayed after to talk with Celeste about puppy stuff and recall. She happened mention there were 2 male 10 week old goldens left in the kennel that needed homes ASAP. She asked me if I would be interested in taking one, and without skipping a beat I said yes!!!! She said the puppy truck would be coming through Reno till next week, but they needed to go out sooner, so we would have to drive to GDB to get it this weekend. We had no problem going there and getting him, but when my leaders called to tell me I was assigned one, they also said the puppy truck is coming Wednesday and we will put your puppy on it! I was so thrilled that I would only have to drive 45min instead of 4 hours to get my long awaited golden!!!

P.S. More pics to come and an update on how he is doing!

Puppy News?

Tomorrow I will be getting a puppy off the puppy truck that just happens to be going through Reno at the right time, what a great coincidence! I will be overlapping till 11/6 that is when Ryder is going back for training. :( The litter was born 8/6 so they are almost 10 weeks old! I am going to let you all guess the:
Name: "A" Litter
Gender
Breed
Color

Good luck guessing!!! Check back tomorrow to see what it is!

P.S. Sorry guys that totally spaced my mind to put the litter letter! You can guess as many names as you'd like as this is only for fun!

Getting Our Ears Pierced?

This morning as usual, Ryder & Corona play in the backyard before school. Corona has always been one to play bite while playing. He is not aggressive but sometimes he bites a little too hard and Ryder will usually let him know by yelping.

I brought Ryder in a few minutes before I left and noticed a little blood on his head. I just thought maybe Corona had a little blood in his mouth I thought nothing of it, I just cleaned it off and left for school. When I was sitting in class I noticed all these blood spots under his right ear, again I just thought it was blood from Corona and them playing and took him to the bathroom and cleaned him up. I than noticed when I was rubbing his ear, there was blood on my hand. So I looked at his ear and noticed a very small puncture on the tip of his ear. Obviously Corona got him while playing. He is fine and it does not seem to bother him and I don't think it it is a hole, because I looked at but it, it's hard to tell because of all the dried blood. But I am absolutely positive it does not go all the way through. I think Corona just ripped the top layer of skin off.

I don't plan on taking him to the vet as I don't think it is an emergency. I am going to wait a week or so and hope it heels up and everything will be back to normal and I will go from there. I just thought I would share my story with you all!

Camping Dog

Over Labor Day weekend my family and some of our friends from California all went camping at this awesome campground called Walker River Resort. It is very pet friendly and accommodates everyone. There is a pool/hot tub, dirt bike riding, hiking, shooting, golfing, and the river! It is a great place for the entire family there should be something for everyone!

We have been going there for the past 4 years a few times each summer, but I have not taken a Guide Dog Puppy with me, I always found puppy sitters for them. This time I decided I would like to take Ryder and give him all the experiences they had to offer. He did way better than I expected. He now knows he has hormones so every time we passed a dog or he saw/heard a dog he would do the annoying whine and after a few times of getting really good corrections and using the food protocall, he was very good!

We went on a lot of hikes, he loved swimming, & he was not so impressed with sleeping in a tent with me, but he got over himself. Lol.
I think this sign is funny, dogs are totally allowed. They are all over the campground so I am assuming they don't want the dogs doing their business on the grass, therefor the signs.

I have not said much about Corona on this blog, but he is doing well he is still very young in the brain (even though he is 10 months old) but he has come a long way. So this is Corona & Ryder sleeping after a long hike and play in the river.
I love this picture, it looks like they are SO aggressive but they are really just playing in the river and cooling off.

One last picture before we had to leave and head home and get ready for school. I was really impressed with how well he did and I hope he can go camping again before he gets recalled.

Have a good week everyone!

P.S. I am pretty sure I will be attending the Sacramento Fun Day, so if anyone is planning to going please let me know! Maybe we can meet up and say hi!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

On Monday we had a special meeting. Our club went to the local Reno Ace's Baseball game in Reno. This was our second time as a club going to the Ace's Game. I really like this meeting as it gives the puppies a much different atmosphere and they have to leave the crazy kids alone, the food all over the floor, and they have to deal with the noise. I was really impressed with all our puppies as they all did so well, even the 4-month old puppies did really well! Ryder of course was great and had to issues really, besides settling in, he wanted to go around and greet all his human and dog friends from our club that came.
We only stayed for about 7 innings as my ride home had to leave and get to bed at a decent hour as she had to work the next day.
As you can tell Ryder really got into the game. Lol.

I am trying to get back into the school schedule now as school starts on the 23. I am sure Ryder will be happy to go back to school as I am sure he missed all his friends. I on the other hand would like summer to go on another month or so, but at the same time I am kind of ready for school. I have heard nothing on Ryder's recall which is a good thing he is still pretty young he is only 14 months old. I am trying to get a cross out of the 3 litters that were born in July, so I am thinking September would be a good time for Ry to go back tho it will break my heart to leave him in the kennels. Time will only tell! I hope you all have a good week. :)

Fun Day!

Fun Day this year was of course very fun, and I got to meet a lot of blogger friends and dogs! I want to apologize for the lack of photos, I forgot my camera and was really not into taking pictures and going to all the presentations this year, so I guess you could say I was kind of out of it. I love Fun Day, and this year was different as I did not receive a puppy and I did not have a recall dog (which is surely not a bad thing!!)

We drove down Friday morning, which is about a 4 hour drive, the drive goes by super fast as we drive that route a lot going to guide dogs and to see my brother who lives down near San Rafael. We had 3 puppies in our car: Ryder, Corona, & Mallory. They were all very well behaved and we only had to stop a few times to relieve them. We noticed Ryder gets really nervous when riding long distances, he will pant, whine, and not settle down. This could be an issue and could be a reason for him to get CC'd. Hopefully he will get over this but it's hard to tell. He is perfectly fine riding in the car around town and to Reno, Tahoe, etc.

We arrived in San Rafael around 5:00 as we made a few stops on our way. We checked into our hotel than drove to Guide Dogs to help set up our booth. After setting up our booth we met up with my brother and headed to the mall to eat dinner and do some more shopping.

Saturday morning I slept in a little and made it to Guide Dogs right at 9 to hear Morgan Watkin's wonderful speech! I headed to our booth after, and helped run it than left to go shopping at the other booths and go look around. I didn't really buy anything except a wonderful Born to Lead sweatshirt and a puppy sleeve coat for Ryder.

Ryder can also be VERY dog distracted so he wore a Halti most of Fun Day. He was very well behaved with it on and enjoyed walking around.

After Fun Day, we left and went back to the hotel to go swimming (not Ryder, though I am sure he wished he could have gone) to cool off and than get ready for dinner. We decided to stay another night because my mom was too tired to drive, so I didn't complain as it meant more time to shop and socialize.

Our booth went pretty well, considering this was our first booth ever! We ended up giving all our "Fun Day 2010" bandannas away for free as they did not sell. The K9 Water Bottles (that were mentioned in my last post) sold pretty well we only have about 40 left and we started with 120.

If any of you blogger people missed out on the K9 Water Bottles, or would like one for a pet dog, we have some left. But only in pink, purple, and red. If you are interested please contact me through e-mail, puppyrazor103@yahoo.com. The water bottles are $13.00 plus 4.95 shipping. You can see the description and picture in my last post of what they are and look like.
You can barely see Ryder, as he was too short to put his head through so my friends lifted him up. :)
5 out of the 7 "R" litter mates showed up and I learned that a lot of them are a lot like Ryder, calm, easy going, and willing to do anything. From L-R: Royalty, Radar, Ryder, Roz, Rumor. We also got to meet the sire of the litter, Atrus. I meet him last Fun Day as well when I was walking around with baby Ryder. It looks like Ryder got most of his calm genes from his daddy, which is great!!
Ryder at out booth wearing his "Fun Day 2010" bandanna.

Happy Birthday DeSoto!!

Happy 3rd Birthday DeSoto!!

It is SO hard to believe that DeSoto is already 3, it seems like just yesterday that I was down at Guide Dogs picking up my first puppy! He was born into this world with a huge weight on his shoulder, and that was to one day be the trusted guide for someone who is blind. He managed to successfully make the dream a reality. It was truly awesome to have my first puppy graduate and see him go with a great person. I am not in contact with Seth, but I have found some pictures & videos on the internet.

I do miss DeSoto as he was my first and he will always be special to me. I wish I was in contact, but that is not always how it is. I am happy that DeSoto is a happy, healthy, 3 year old. He looks great in the pics & videos, so I guess I could not be happier than to know that he is well loved and taken care of.

Happy Birthday Soto Boy!!!

Painting

My club is doing a booth a Fun Day this year (first time ever) and I made a sign today at my mom's daycare to put at our booth. I am not sure if I like it, but it looks ok, I may have to re-do it. :)

Anyway Ryder was there with me and my mom does not have any paw print stamps, so I used Ryder for a stamp! He was SO good about letting me paint his pad and slept while I did it. Did I mention I LOVE this dog?!
The sign with Ryder's paw prints.
Ryder's foot. I washed it off immediately after I was done using it.
